Fifth Grade News

What’s Happening in Class?  

·         Bible:  Memory verse quiz will be this Wednesday, October 2^nd. The students will write the verse for their quiz.

Our verse is, “By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises offered up his one and only son.” Hebrews 11:17

·         Reading: This week we start off in chapter 22 of, The Tale of Despereaux. Students will also have independent reading this week in the book of their choice. They will be recording their independent reading in the Reader’s notebook.

·         Language Arts: This week in Writer’s Workshop we will continue learning about “voice” in our writing. I will be teaching and sharing examples of how to use “voice” in writing to make a story show the author’s unique personality and style of writing. Students have a formal writing assignment due this Friday, October 4^th. Instructions are to pick a draft from the Writer’s Workshop folder to edit and correct for a final draft due on Friday. Students are allowed to type a story at home, if they wish. Typing is not required.

·         Spelling and Vocabulary: This week students are completing Wordly Wise Lesson 2 exercises D and E for homework, as well as, Spelling Lesson 4. This homework will be due October 2nd. This week we will have a Spelling test on lesson 4 and a test on Wordly Wise Lesson 2 on Wed., Oct. 2^nd.

Blog Information:  

The blog is intended to assist students with homework and classwork information. If your child is absent or misses a class for any reason, such as piano or band, please check the blog to see what classroom assignments or homework assignments they may have missed. Students should also check Mrs. West’s blog for information about the classes she teaches. This will help keep your student on track even if he/she is not present in class. Many students actually check the blog on their own to keep up with what they may have missed or forgotten.
