Sixth Grade Language Arts April 24-May3
Reading
- Last week on Tuesday, April 23, we started a new class novel, Island of the Blue Dolphins, by Scott O'Dell. We will be reading and completing assignments for this novel in class. Students will only have homework for this subject if they don't finish an assignment during class time.
- April 25th, We read Chapter 2 of Island of the Blue Dolphin. Students began a personal map of the island to be completed over the progression of reading the book in class.
- April 29th, We read Chapter 3 of Island of the Blue Dolphin. We completed a whole class activity with vocabulary from the first three chapters.
- April 30th, Fieldtrip Today!
- May 1st, We read Chapter 4 of Island of the Blue Dolphin.
- May 2nd, Comprehension quiz for chapters 1-4 of Island of the Blue Dolphin.
- May 3rd, No School!
Writer's Workshop
- April 25th, We spent the entire language arts block learning elements of literature that Scott O'Dell and many other authors use in their novels. We then explored in group activity how to incorporate these elements into our own writing.
- April 29th, We spent this class period coaching students on the writing they have done for science fair projects thus far.
Spelling and Vocabulary
- April 24th, We had our test on Wordly Wise lesson 16.
- May 1st, Wordly Wise lesson 17 will be due and there will be a test.
- May 1st, Spelling lesson 25 will be due and words 3x each in cursive. There will be a test.
- May 2nd, Wordly Wise lesson 18 will be introduced in class.
- May 2nd, Spelling lesson 26 will be introduced in class.
