- We are currently reading Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, for a class novel study. This novel deals with some more mature themes for young adults such as prejudice and discrimination. I would like to invite you to encourage your student to continue the discussion about the theme of our novel study at home. Students will be reading daily in class and reader response journals will be assigned. I will be giving students time in class to both read and complete journals. Any work not finished in class must be finished that evening for homework.
- Monday night, 2/11, read pages 34-42 in Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry.
- Skill page for setting of Roll of Thunder is due Tuesday, 2/12.
- Tuesday, 2/12 we finished reading chapter 3 of Roll of Thunder.
- Students were assigned a Chapter summary for chapter 3 to be completed in class, if the summary wasn't completed in class, it should be finished for homework.
- Skill page for figurative language and similies is due Wednesday, 2/13.
- Writing Assignment for the discrimination handout on Roll of Thunder, assigned today 2/13, 1page response, is due Tuesday,2/19.
Spelling and Wordly Wise
- Spelling lesson 18 is a review lesson of lessons 13-17. Pick 20 words that give you trouble and write those words 3x each in cursive for homework. Due Wednesday, February 13th.
- Wordly Wise lesson 12 exercises A-E due Wednesday, February 13th.
- Spelling and Wordly Wise tests are on Wednesday, February 13th.
Creative Writing
- This week we will be trying our hand at writing poetry for Valentine's Day.
- Any student who reads this blog and writes an original Valentine themed poem this weekend will get a prize on Monday. This offer good for Monday only. Shhh... don't tell your friends... I want to see who is reading the blog! ;)
