Sixth Grade Language Arts October 24th-26th

Reading-
  • This week brings our reading of Where the Red Fern Grows to a close. Students will be making picture/poster book reports on Wednesday-Friday in class. 
  • On Thursday, October 25th, they will have their final comprehension test. Students are allowed to use their notes from the Reader Response entries in their reading journals and their books for the test. 
  • Before starting our new novel, The Wednesday Wars, we will take some class time for nonfiction reading, researching, and referencing in the science book.We will also be mixing science and reading this week as the students continue to develop their referencing and researching skills. 
  • Today, October 24th, students will work on worksheets from their workbooks. These worksheets will become study guides to help students prepare for the science test which will be next Thursday, November 1st. These science study guides will be due on Tuesday, October 30th.
  •  We will start Wednesday Wars on Thursday, October 25th. In this novel each chapter is represented by a month of the year. The Reader Responses to this book will be given in class, however, if students do not complete the assignment in class, they are to take it home for homework to complete it.

Spelling-
  •  Review test of Lessons 1-5 will be on Wednesday, October 24th. 
  • Spelling Lesson 7 will be due on Wednesday, October 31st


Grammar-
  • We are continuing our work with sentence variety and learning to write and use all types of sentences (simple, compound, complex) in writing, in order to make our writing more interesting. 
  • This week we will be working on pages 103-114. Any work not completed in class may be completed at home by the end of the week, October 26th.
