Mountain School Day 1

Getting to camp this morning was a little challenging, and mostly it was just testing my patience. I could sense God telling me to let the time factor go, and stop worrying about being late. We all arrived  safe and sound, thank The Lord! Our students had their orientation and opening lessons, they made their beds, settled into their rooms, played some team sports, ate dinner, and then the best time of the night.... the night hike. It was truly enlightening for us! This is what we saw....

Our guide had us hold hands, follow in a line, and hike trails in pitch darkness. She didn't even use a flashlight! We walked in silence, listening for the person in front to whisper... "Rock to your right, or stump to your left, or duck... etc." This quickly became a poignant illustration for me, personally, concerning what the Lord has been trying to teach me lately about trusting Him. While we walked along, He gently spoke to me and said,"This is me guiding you through your life. This is what I can do for you. I know where the rocks, stumps and hard places are, so put your hand in mine, and trust me to get your where you need to be." If our guide had left me out there alone, I dare say, I would have been so lost to find my way where we were going or how to return. I would have just been wandering in the dark with no direction at all.
The application here for trusting God is so powerful and enlightening to me. I trusted my guide with no problem at all. I didn't make any plans whatsoever about where to go, nor was I anxious. I just relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed the hike. Why then do I, do we, have so much trouble trusting the Lord, who created us and knows the plans He has for us? Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in The Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths." In pitch darkness, a verse that had become common place in my heart, suddenly took on a whole new meaning for my journey ahead. Thank you Lord for your guiding hand in our lives, please remind us to relax and enjoy the journey.
