Sixth Grade Language Arts September 10th-14th
- Spelling and Wordly Wise- Lesson 1 seemed to go quite smoothly. Yesterday I checked the students' Wordly Wise Workbooks to see how they did on section "E." I made individual notes to students in their workbooks about grammatical and mechanical errors mostly, and all in all the comprehension component was the most impressive part.
- Spelling and Wordly Wise- Lesson 2 due dates and tests dates will be postponed until September 26th because of camp. I have given the spelling lesson 2 handout for students to complete and study. Today I introduced Wordly Wise Lesson 2 in class and students had about 15 minutes to get a start on their homework.
- Reading-This week we will be covering Chapters 5-8. We have started our Reader Response Journals. For Reader Response Journals students are asked to look for key vocabulary words in context and then look up the definitions in the dictionary, students are also asked to respond to the chapter through writing. The writing is usually a discussion/reflection question. Students are asked to write at least 5 sentences in response to the question. This is a class assignment. If students do not finish the assignment they are allowed to take it home to finish or complete it in Mrs. West's class when other work has been completed.
- Grammar-This week we begin work on Sentence Variety and Sentence Problems in the Write Source Skills book. We will be working on pages 91-96 in the skills workbook.
- Science-We are currently learning about the Pangean theories, layers of the earth, oceanic plates, continental plates, and plate tectonics. On Thursday and Friday in science we have a great hands-on activity and video to help students visualize movements of the oceanic and continental plates. Thus far all work is being completed during class.
