Sixth Grade Language Arts Sept. 17th-21st

Spelling and Vocabulary
  • Today, 9/17, students worked with a partner for 20 minutes in class to complete Wordly Wise Lesson 2. Most students are doing an excellent job at staying on task and taking advantage of the opportunity to learn from one another. There are a few students who chose not to work on the assignment and thus they will have more homework to complete. At this point I am choosing to make them aware of the waste of class time in an effort to get them to self-correct. In the future, if the problem persists, I will make the parents aware of wasted class time.
Reading

  • Today, 9/17, we read chapter 8 in Where the Red Fern Grows. There was no Reader Response class assignment today.
  • Tomorrow, 9/18, we will read chapter 9.
  • Reader Response assignment: Look for these vocabulary words in context while reading, then look them up in the dictionary. Write the definition of the word as it is used in your reading. Words are: Limbered, droning, resistance, whiled. Response question, please use at least five sentences in your answer. Describe Grandpa's trick to keep the raccoon treed, and describe how Billy's dogs joined in the effort to keep the coon treed.
