Mount St Helens Field Learning Experience



Mount St Helens Fieldtrip Friday, October 10th
Planned Schedule-


·         Students need to bring a sack lunch, water bottles, and snacks for morning and afternoon. Please have your student bring a sweatshirt and a light rain jacket for layering.

·         7:15 Load the bus for departure no later than 7:30.

·         Arrive Mount St Helens at Johnston Ridge Observatory at 9:30 am

·         Visit Observatory 9:30-10:30am

·         Coldwater Lake observations and lunch 10:45-12:00

·         Hummocks Trail Hike and field studies 12:00-3:00- this activity is on weather permitting basis. If it is raining we will be staying at Johnston Ridge Observatory and completing learning activities there. In the case of rain we will eat lunch at the Observatory and visit Coldwater Lake on the way home.

·         Trip home 3:30- 5:30 or 6:00 Students can call home 30-40 minutes prior to arrival for pick up time. If the hike is cancelled due to weather, we will be home earlier.
     


      The schedule will change if it is raining. If it is only foggy or misty, we will still hike the hummocks trail. If it is raining we will spend the majority of our time at the observatory and then continue to Coldwater Lake. Please have your student bring a sweatshirt and a light rain jacket for layering.

 
If you are willing to chaperone this event you need to be able to hike 2 and 1/2-3miles (hiking is moderate-challenging.) You will also need to be able to lead your group of 5-6 students in learning activities. We will place your own child in your group, however, you will need to provide assistance, attention and care for all the students in your group
